Managing Dento-Facial Asymmetry from Childhood to Adulthood

Orthodontics and pediatric dentistry have long confronted the clinical and developmental challenges posed by craniofacial and dento-facial asymmetries, conditions that can significantly influence a child’s growth pattern, occlusal development, and overall facial harmony. Pediatric orthodontics has traditionally emphasized interceptive and preventive approaches aimed at guiding craniofacial growth and restoring functional balance.Recent advances in digital technology — including 3D imaging, AI-assisted diagnostics, and CAD-CAM workflows — have greatly enhanced our ability to assess asymmetries with higher accuracy, develop individualized treatment plans, and monitor growth-related changes over time. These innovations offer new opportunities for early intervention, personalized therapy, and improved long-term outcomes, highlighting the need for continued scientific exchange in this rapidly evolving field. This Research Topic aims to present the most recent clinical, technological, and translational research contributing to the diagnosis and management of dento-facial asymmetry in the growing patient. We particularly encourage submissions that explore novel diagnostic protocols, digital treatment planning, growth-modification strategies, and interdisciplinary management of complex cases. Special attention will also be given to orthodontic care in patients with craniofacial anomalies such as cleft lip and palate, where asymmetry is often severe and treatment requires coordinated, long-term intervention. We welcome submissions addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:• Novel concepts, techniques, or early-stage research on the management of dento-facial asymmetry• Integration of digital workflows, 3D imaging, and CAD-CAM systems in clinical practice• Integration of AI-based tools for diagnosis of asymmetry• Orthodontic and orthopedic treatment strategies for patients with cleft lip/palate and associated speech or functional disorders• Multidisciplinary protocols for diagnosis and treatment planning (orthodontics, maxillofacial surgery, speech therapy, pediatrics, etc.)• Sophisticated orthodontic biomechanics for correcting sketetal or dental asymmetry using orthodontic miniscrews• Evidence-based insights into growth modification, timing of intervention, and pediatric outcomes related to craniofacial asymmetry Topic editors: Antonino Lo Giudice Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/72408/managing-dento-facial-asymmetry-from-childhood-to-adulthood
