Mechanisms Underlying Complex Traits during Plant Growth and Development
Plant growth and development, from seed germination to organ formation and senescence, are precisely regulated by complex genetic networks. These processes ultimately manifest as complex traits of significant economic and biological importance, such as yield, quality and flowering time. A thorough understanding of the mechanisms underlying the formation of these complex traits not only helps to reveal the fundamental principles of plant life processes but also provides a theoretical basis for crop genetic improvement. The formation of complex traits involves the coordinated regulation of multiple genes and pathways, and is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. How to elucidate the molecular basis of complex trait formation at a systems level, and to identify the core regulatory nodes controlling the transition between key developmental stages, remains a major scientific challenge in plant biology today. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate multi-level data and systematically reveal the molecular mechanisms underlying the formation of complex traits during plant growth and development from the perspectives of genes, networks and populations. This Research Topic aims to deepen our understanding of the mechanisms underlying complex trait formation during plant growth and development. We will focus on identifying key genes and regulatory networks associated with traits such as yield, quality, growth, development, and stress resistance. By integrating multi-omics data and population-level information, we seek to systematically elucidate the dynamic regulatory networks and molecular mechanisms governing complex trait formation, thereby providing theoretical foundations and candidate targets for crop genetic improvement. We welcome submissions covering the following topics, including but not limited to the areas listed below:• Functional gene identification based on multi-omics data and regulatory networks of complex plant traits, followed by preliminary experimental validation• Identification and functional characterization of regulatory factors that play key roles during specific developmental stages or stage transitions, with preliminary experimental validation• Genetic diversity of germplasm resources and its application in the genetic dissection of complex traits• Other studies related to the mechanisms underlying complex trait formation during plant growth and development Topic editors: Shi Tian-Le, Yaru Sang, Xuechan Tian, Shuai Nie, Si-Qian Jiao Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/79891/mechanisms-underlying-complex-traits-during-plant-growth-and-development
