Mechanobiology of Cell–Matrix and Cell–Cell Interactions: From Molecular Mechanisms to Translational Impact

This Research Topic aims to showcase pioneering research and authoritative reviews that advance understanding in the field of mechanobiology, with a specific focus on the multifaceted connections between cell–matrix and cell–cell interactions. Contributions are encouraged that dissect the molecular, cellular, and tissue-level mechanisms by which mechanical forces influence cellular behavior and signaling, as well as those that bridge fundamental findings to translational applications in health and disease.Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:- Mechanisms of force transmission and mechanotransduction at the cell–matrix and cell–cell interface- Molecular and biophysical drivers of tissue remodeling, growth, and development- Aberrant mechanotransduction and signaling dysfunction in pathological contexts- Novel experimental and computational approaches to interrogate mechanobiological processes across length scales- Innovation in biophysical tools, imaging, and single-molecule methods for studying mechanical interactions- Translational applications of mechanobiology in regenerative medicine, device development, and disease intervention- The role of mechanical forces in shaping cell fate decisions, tissue dynamics, and organ functionBy integrating fundamental and applied perspectives, this Research Topic seeks to highlight how cutting-edge methodologies—such as high-resolution imaging, next-generation biophysical techniques, microfabrication, and advanced computing—are unraveling the molecular underpinnings of mechanobiological processes. The collection also invites submissions that contribute to addressing global health and innovation, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals of Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9).Through cross-disciplinary collaboration and state-of-the-art science, this Research Topic will provide a platform to drive new insights into the mechanics of life, inspire novel therapies, and inform the next generation of biophysical research.
