Metabolic Inflammation and Insulin Resistance in Diabetes
Diabetes is closely associated with chronic low-grade metabolic inflammation, impaired insulin signalling, oxidative stress, and disrupted glucose and lipid metabolism. These interconnected processes contribute to insulin resistance and may influence the progression of diabetes-related metabolic dysfunction.Recent research has highlighted the role of inflammatory mediators, cellular stress responses, metabolic reprogramming, and tissue-specific changes in shaping insulin sensitivity and metabolic outcomes in diabetes. A better understanding of these mechanisms may support the identification of biomarkers and targeted strategies to reduce metabolic inflammation and improve insulin resistance.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• Metabolic inflammation as a driver of insulin resistance in diabetes• Inflammatory pathways involved in impaired insulin signalling• Oxidative stress and cellular stress responses in insulin-resistant states• Glucose and lipid metabolism in diabetes-associated insulin resistance• Metabolic reprogramming in diabetes and insulin resistance• Hepatic metabolic dysfunction in diabetes, where linked to inflammation and insulin resistance• Biomarkers of metabolic inflammation and impaired insulin sensitivity• Bioactive compound-based, nutritional, or pharmacological approaches targeting metabolic inflammation• Emerging therapeutic targets for improving insulin sensitivity and metabolic outcomes in diabetes Topic editors: Mohammad Mohabbulla Mohib, Mohammad Sarif Mohiuddin, MD, PhD, NARJES NASIRI ANSARI Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/84418/metabolic-inflammation-and-insulin-resistance-in-diabetes
