Metabolites and ncRNAs in Cancer and Obesity
The profiles of RNAs in cancer and obesity can be shared conducing to metabolite production and/or inhibition. The flow of information is clearly predictable, RNA to metabolites production and regulation in normal and/or transformed cells. However, the inverse flow of information metabolites to RNA is not clearly studied. The sense of how information flows determine the development of cancer enhanced by obesity. Gene expression regulation is triggered by RNA generation, stability and degradation, the fine-tunning between these processes conduces to cancer and obesity. Several RNAs are shared between these two pathologies contributing to increase the risk of cancer develop. The profiles of metabolites are finely modulated in cancer and obesity and an interplay can occur. Patters of metabolites could change expression of ncRNAs (microRNAs, lncRNAs, piRNAs, tiRNAs, etc.) and vice versa conducing to cancer. The balance in metabolites can change cellular and molecular pathways triggered by obesity increasing the risk of cancer progress. The goal of this Research Topic is to elucidate the profiles of metabolites and ncRNAs that are finely modulated in cancer and obesity and its interplay between them favoring cancer development. The outstanding of this regulation between macromolecules can conduce to drug discovery and design, predict chemoresistance, propose emerging therapeutic strategies, including targeted drug delivery systems, prodrugs, nanocarriers, and combination therapies aimed at improving the delivery, efficacy and safety of ncRNAs. We welcome Original Research, Review, Mini Review and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:- Cellular and molecular regulation of ncRNAs involved in cell signaling in cancer and obesity. - Contributions spanning fundamental ncRNAs (microRNAs lncRNAs, piRNAs, tiRNAs, among others RNAs) biology, base modifications (methylation, deamination, phosphorylation), isoforms and regulation.- Disease mechanisms in cancer and obesity.- Drug discovery and design, and chemoresistance, associated with obesity–cancer- Studies focusing on emerging therapeutic strategies, including targeted drug delivery systems, prodrugs, nanocarriers, and combination therapies aimed at improving the delivery, efficacy and safety of ncRNAs.
