Methanotrophic bioprocess enhancement for sustainable food production
Methanotrophic bioprocessing is emerging as a pivotal field in biotechnology with significant potential for sustainable food production. Methanotrophic bacteria possess the unique ability to metabolize methane, a potent greenhouse gas, transforming it into essential bio-compounds. Recent scientific endeavors have explored optimizing these bioprocesses to yield abundant and nutrient-rich food-like products. While traditional agricultural practices significantly impact the environment, the utilization of methane not only curtails emissions but also paves the way for alternative food sources, addressing both environmental and nutritional needs. This Research Topic aims to delve into innovative methodologies in bioprocess optimization, focusing on nutrient-induced enhancements in methanotrophic bacteria. Central objectives include investigating strategies to manipulate nutrient pathways that can impact the biosynthesis of high-value products such as proteins and carbohydrates. Furthermore, it seeks to examine advanced transcriptomic analyses and cutting-edge bioreactor designs that can facilitate these processes. Pioneering these approaches not only supports the development of sustainable and economically viable bioproducts but also contributes to a circular economy. To gather further insights in creating efficient methanotrophic systems, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Nutrient regulation and manipulation in methanotrophic biosynthesis- Transcriptomic and genomic approaches to enhance methane utilization- Bioreactor designs for optimized bacterial growth and production efficiency- Environmental impact assessments of methane-based food production systems- Case studies demonstrating successful scale-ups of methanotrophic bioprocesses Topic editors: Rajesh K Sani, Dipayan Samanta, Aparna Banerjee Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/74607/methanotrophic-bioprocess-enhancement-for-sustainable-food-production
