Mineral Dysregulation and Endocrine Drivers of Skeletal Fragility
Skeletal strength depends on precise endocrine regulation of mineral homeostasis, including coordinated control of phosphate and calcium balance, bone remodelling dynamics, and renal - skeletal cross - talk. Disturbances in these regulatory systems are central to a range of metabolic bone disorders, contributing not only to rare inherited conditions but also to fragility fractures and structural deterioration in aging populations. Despite advances in understanding mineral regulation, important gaps persist in linking endocrine mechanisms with clinical stratification and long-term outcomes. This Research Topic aims to examine how alterations in mineral handling and hormonal regulation shape skeletal fragility and influence disease progression. By integrating experimental, translational, and clinical research, this collection will highlight how endocrine disturbances of mineral balance contribute to metabolic bone disorders. It will further explore how these insights can refine diagnosis, monitoring, and therapeutic decision-making. We welcome mineral dysregulation submissions addressing, but not limited to:• Endocrine pathways regulating calcium and phosphate balance and their influence on bone strength• Cellular and molecular mechanisms driving skeletal fragility in metabolic bone disorders• Systemic endocrine conditions that alter skeletal remodelling and structural integrity• Advances in biochemical markers and imaging approaches for diagnosis and monitoring• Interactions between muscle function, aging, and bone resilience• Risk stratification strategies and predictors of fracture outcomes• Translational and real-world evidence guiding therapeutic decision-making in metabolic bone disease Topic editors: Gaetano Paride Arcidiacono, Chiara Ceolin Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/78688/mineral-dysregulation-and-endocrine-drivers-of-skeletal-fragility
