Molecular Diagnostics and Therapeutics for Global Health Challenges in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

The field of molecular diagnostics and therapeutics is increasingly recognized for its ability to address complex health challenges on a global scale. In recent years, there has been growing momentum among researchers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to develop affordable, scalable molecular technologies and computational tools that generate actionable clinical insights relevant to local contexts. Despite their ingenuity, many of these initiatives remain underrepresented in global scientific discourse, and LMIC researchers frequently contend with limited visibility, infrastructural barriers, and inadequate recognition for their contributions. This Research Topic aims to showcase and amplify the scientific leadership and collaborative efforts emerging from LMICs in molecular diagnostics and therapeutics. The objective is to draw attention to original work on diagnostic and therapeutic tools that are adaptable, reproducible, and affordable in resource-constrained settings, from biomarker discovery through to clinical application.Within the boundaries of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches tailored for, or emerging from, LMIC contexts, we invite research that highlights novel science and collaborative strategies with a clear molecular diagnostics or therapeutics component. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Development of cost-effective, scalable molecular diagnostic tools for infectious disease detection and surveillance in resource-limited settings- Biomarker discovery and validation for personalized medicine and disease monitoring in LMIC populations- Application of bioinformatic and machine learning approaches to identify diagnostic or prognostic markers, supported by validating results- Molecular therapies and novel delivery systems adapted for low-resource clinical environments- Genetic variations affecting drug response, metabolism, or disease progression relevant to LMIC populations- Regulatory, ethical, and implementation considerations for deploying molecular diagnostics and therapeutics in LMIC settings- Case studies demonstrating measurable clinical or diagnostic impact in LMIC communities Topic editors: João Pacifico Bezerra-Neto, Manuela Leal Da Silva, Alessandra Freitas Serain Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/79302/molecular-diagnostics-and-therapeutics-for-global-health-challenges-in-low--and-middle-income-countries
