Molecular Mechanisms and Experimental Approaches in Gynecological Cancer Biology

Gynecological cancers — including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, and vulvar malignancies — are characterised by profound molecular heterogeneity that underlies their complexity and diversity. The distinct molecular landscapes of these tumour types, shaped by dysregulated signalling pathways, epigenetic alterations, aberrant gene expression, and complex protein–protein interactions, present a rich area for fundamental biological investigation. Understanding the molecular architecture of these cancers is essential to uncovering the mechanisms that drive tumour initiation, progression, and the emergence of resistance at the cellular and molecular level. This Research Topic aims to advance the mechanistic understanding of gynecological cancer biology through rigorous cellular and molecular experimental approaches. The objective is to highlight the molecular events governing tumour behaviour — including the identification of novel molecular targets, the characterisation of oncogenic signalling networks, and the molecular dissection of resistance mechanisms. Central questions include how specific molecular interactions regulate tumour cell behaviour, how experimental models can reliably identify the molecular complexity of these cancers, and what molecular vulnerabilities can be exploited to disrupt disease progression. Contributions should be grounded in experimental investigation of molecular mechanisms, interactions, and pathways. This Research Topic is focused exclusively on preclinical and experimental research into molecular mechanisms. It excludes studies involving direct human participant data, clinical outcomes, surgical or pharmacological interventions in patients, or broad cancer biology approaches lacking molecular mechanistic focus. We welcome submissions that experimentally explore molecular drivers, interactions, and regulatory networks in gynecological cancer models. To gather further insights within these boundaries, we invite articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Molecular mechanisms of tumour initiation, progression, and metastasis in gynecological cancers• Characterisation of oncogenic signalling pathways and their molecular regulators• Molecular basis of drug resistance and experimental strategies to overcome it• Experimental investigation of molecular biomarkers using in vitro and in vivo model systems• Molecular analysis of circulating tumour-derived entities — including ctDNA, exosomes, and miRNAs — as mechanistic probes• Mechanistic studies of bioactive compounds and their molecular targets in gynecological cancer models Topic editors: Bruna Scaggiante, Dr. Precious Barnes, Du-Bois Asante Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/78570/molecular-mechanisms-and-experimental-approaches-in-gynecological-cancer-biology
