Multi-omics for Precision Oncology: Integrating Genomes, Epigenomes, and Transcriptomes Across Cancers

The field of cancer genetics and oncogenomics is undergoing a transformative shift as multi-omics approaches become central to understanding the complex biology of cancer. While traditional single-omics analyses—focused separately on genomes, epigenomes, or transcriptomes—have greatly advanced our knowledge of cancer drivers and therapeutic targets, they often fall short of capturing the intricate interplay among genetic alterations, regulatory mechanisms, and gene expression programs. Recent studies integrating multiple omics layers have uncovered novel oncogenic pathways, resistance mechanisms, and tumor heterogeneity patterns, leading to more refined and actionable biomarker discovery. Despite these advances, there remain substantial challenges in data integration, interpretation, and clinical translation, with open questions surrounding the generalizability of findings across cancer types, populations, and disease stages. This Research Topic aims to bring together innovative research that leverages the integration of genomes, epigenomes, and transcriptomes for precision oncology. Specifically, the objective is to highlight studies that reveal novel oncogenic drivers, elucidate regulatory interactions, and identify biomarkers with the potential to impact diagnosis, prognosis, treatment selection, and disease monitoring. Additionally, this Research Topic seeks to advance methodological development in multi-omics data harmonization and interpretation, promote reproducible and transparent research practices, and stimulate discussion on the clinical relevance of integrative omics approaches. Contributions that explore the translation of multi-omics insights across diverse cohorts, tumor types, and data platforms are especially encouraged. To ensure a focused yet comprehensive exploration of this fast-evolving area, the scope of this Research Topic is limited to studies that integrate at least two omics layers—genomes, epigenomes, or transcriptomes—across cancer types, with consideration for clinical and translational significance. We welcome a wide range of articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:Integrative analysis of genetic, epigenetic, and transcriptional drivers in cancer initiation, progression, and therapy resistanceDevelopment and benchmarking of computational and statistical methods for multi-omics data integrationIdentification and validation of multi-omics biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment responseStudies on tumor heterogeneity, clonal evolution, and the tumor microenvironment using multi-omics approaches, including single-cell applicationsInvestigation of population-level differences, cohort integration, and reproducibility in multi-omics cancer research Topic editors: Ting Gong, Hua Zhong Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/78152/multi-omics-for-precision-oncology-integrating-genomes-epigenomes-and-transcriptomes-across-cancers
