Nano-Engineered Scaffolds and Matrices for Regenerative Medicine and Organ-on-a-Chip Systems

Over the past decade, advances in nanotechnology, biomaterials engineering, and 3D bioprinting have transformed regenerative medicine. These innovations have enabled the development of nano-engineered scaffolds and strategies for delivering cells, growth factors, nucleic acids, and drugs, thereby advancing organ regeneration and the recapitulation of human physiology for disease modelling. However, significant challenges remain in fully replicating organ function or complex physiological environments on a chip. A timely collection of articles on “Nano-Engineered Scaffolds and Matrices for Regenerative Medicine and Organ-on-a-Chip Systems” will highlight how these emerging materials can be harnessed to create advanced models for studying human disease and tissue regeneration.The Research Topic aims to consolidate the most innovative approaches and advancements in overcoming the above-mentioned limitations. More specifically, nano-engineered scaffolds that can fine-tune/modulate immune cells for tissue regeneration and organ-on-chip models, where innovative approaches are made to introduce vasculature and recapitulate dynamics at the tissue level interface. By spotlighting these innovations, we seek to advance translational research, reduce the number of animals used in research, and ultimately enable breakthroughs in research that can take the leap from the bench to bedside.We will accept Original Research and Review articles.
