Nanofabrication and Advanced Manufacturing of Functional Surfaces and Materials
The advancement of nanofabrication and advanced manufacturing techniques in recent years has enabled material scientists to precisely control material structures and properties at the micro and nanoscale. Such control has facilitated the development of functional materials with tailored mechanical, chemical, and biological performance. Conventional fabrication methods often face challenges in simultaneously achieving scalability, reproducibility, and multifunctionality, limiting their translation from laboratory research to real world applications. Recent advancements in fabrication techniques such as electrospinning, additive manufacturing, nanoimprint lithography, and roll-to-roll processing have created new opportunities for producing complex, hierarchical, and bioinspired material architectures. These advances are driving innovation across a wide range of applications, including healthcare, energy systems, environmental technologies, and smart devices. This research topic aims to highlight recent advances in advanced manufacturing techniques for the development of novel materials with emerging and multifunctional properties. The primary aim of this Research Topic is to highlight advances that are currently being explored in advanced manufacturing techniques for the development of novel and emerging multifunctional materials.
