Neuroeconomics, Technology, and Human Behavior in Public Health
The field of health economics is rapidly evolving as technological innovation and economic complexity reshape how individuals approach health-related decisions and resource management. Digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and advanced health platforms increasingly influence not only health care delivery but also the cognitive and behavioral processes behind economic choices. Insights from psychology, neuroscience, and especially neuroeconomics are illuminating how individuals perceive risk, value health interventions, and adapt decision-making strategies within highly dynamic, digitally mediated contexts. The implications are particularly significant as aging populations and diverse demographics encounter new barriers and opportunities for accessing health information, services, and economic tools. However, integration between cognitive science and health economics remains limited, creating a crucial gap in policy-relevant evidence at the intersection of behavior, economics, and technology. This Research Topic aims to bridge the fields of cognitive science, neuroeconomics, and health economics in order to better understand the mechanisms and outcomes of decision-making within modern health systems. The primary goal is to investigate how individuals formulate economic choices regarding health, navigate complex information environments, and respond to the incentives and uncertainties introduced by new technologies. By synthesizing empirical findings and theoretical frameworks, this Research Topic seeks to inform economic modeling, resource allocation, insurance system design, and equitable health financing. A special emphasis will be placed on how technological innovation—such as AI, digital health platforms, and algorithmic interfaces—reshapes economic behaviors and the implications for cost-effectiveness, accessibility, and public health outcomes.Confined to the intersection of economic decision-making, cognitive adaptation, and technological transformation, the scope covers both individual and systemic perspectives. We encourage submissions from interdisciplinary teams as well as economists, policy analysts, and behavioral scientists. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Cognitive adaptation and economic behavior in digital health contexts• Neuroeconomic drivers of health decision-making and resource utilization• Technology-mediated markets and incentives in public health systems• Digital inclusion, equity, and economic access to health interventions• Economic modeling and evaluation of cognitive technologies in health care• Trust, risk management, and policy responses to algorithmic health platforms• Psychological Resilience and Cognitive Health Across the Life Course• Ethical and Governance Dimensions of Cognitive Technologies• Socio-Technological Systems and Human Behavioral Evolution Topic editors: Alexandru Bodislav, Raluca Iuliana Georgescu Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/79586/neuroeconomics-technology-and-human-behavior-in-public-health
