Neurorepair Mechanisms in CNS Injury: Stem Cell Secretome, Glial Plasticity, and Neuroprotective Signalling
This Research Topic explores the cellular, molecular, and pharmacological mechanisms that drive neurorepair following CNS injury, with a particular focus on two interconnected axes: glial cell plasticity, especially astrocyte and Schwann cell responses in shaping the post-injury microenvironment and stem cell-derived secretomes, including extracellular vesicles and neurotrophic factors from neural stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and iPSC-derived progenitors. The collection will also welcome work on pharmacological neuroprotection, including modulation of neurotransmitter transporters, preconditioning paradigms, and small-molecule strategies that engage endogenous repair pathways. Vascular-neural crosstalk, blood–brain barrier dynamics, and biomaterial-assisted delivery of cells and bioactive molecules represent further areas of interest, alongside translational models of stroke, spinal cord injury, and neurodegenerative disease. The Topic could accommodate original research, reviews, and methodological or translational perspectives.
