New Approaches to Diagnosing Angor Pectoris: Clinical Implications of Biomarkers and Physiology
Chronic coronary syndromes (CCS) represent a significant burden on global health, characterized by diverse physiological phenotypes stemming from the involvement of both macro and microvascular systems. Diagnostic practices for CCS have traditionally relied heavily on invasive coronary angiography, complemented by physiological assessments. Notably, the development and integration of biomarkers for diagnostics in non-acute settings remain limited. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), critical in regulating gene expression and implicated in numerous cellular functions, are emerging as potential non-invasive biomarkers due to their stability and reflective capabilities of various pathological states in CCS.This Research Topic aims to enhance our comprehension and application of various diagnostic tools in CCS, with a particular focus on the less invasive and possibly cost-effective use of biomarkers. It seeks to further define coronary artery circulation through detailed physiological endotypes, improving the precision of existing models by incorporating new findings related to miRNAs and other biomarkers. The intention is to expand on the current diagnostic framework, which could lead to optimized patient-specific treatment plans while reducing unnecessary medical interventions. To gather further insights in the domain of CCS and its effective management, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Utilization and impact of miRNAs as biomarkers in CCS;• Characterization of macrovascular and microvascular involvements in CCS;• Innovations in non-invasive tests for better diagnosis and management of CCS;• Clinical implications of identifying physiological coronary endotypes;• Strategies to integrate new diagnostic biomarkers into current clinical guidelines. This Research Topic welcomes original research, reviews, and case studies that explore these areas, aiming to contribute meaningful advances to the fields of cardiac physiology and cardiology.
