New Concepts, Advances, and Future Trends in Clinical Research on Eye Diseases Volume Ⅱ
The landscape of clinical research in ophthalmology is undergoing a profound and rapid transformation. This evolution—marked by substantial growth in both output and methodological rigor—has positioned the field at the forefront of medical innovation. A primary driver is the integration of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), sophisticated imaging modalities, and genomic profiling, which are reshaping diagnostic paradigms and enabling new therapeutic strategies. This convergence has enhanced the precision of clinical assessment and, in turn, improved prognostication and patient management.Concurrently, there is increased emphasis on methodological standardization and systematic approaches to strengthen reproducibility and clinical translatability. However, this acceleration also raises complex ethical and practical challenges, ranging from data privacy and informed consent in the era of big data to equitable access to novel interventions. This Research Topic aims to capture this pivotal moment by consolidating emerging discoveries, highlighting integrative methodological frameworks, and critically examining the ethical frontiers that will shape the next era of sight-saving research and clinical practice. We aim to provide a forum for high-quality original research and comprehensive reviews that highlight novel concepts, transformative methodologies, and emerging trends in ophthalmic clinical research. We particularly encourage submissions demonstrating the practical integration of advanced technologies—such as AI-driven diagnostics, novel biomarkers, and innovative trial designs—into clinical frameworks. A key objective is to foster interdisciplinary dialogue that bridges laboratory discovery, clinical application, and health outcomes research, with a focus on challenges in translating evidence into practice. This collection will also examine the ethical, regulatory, and practical implications of rapid advances in the field. Ultimately, our goal is to synthesize current knowledge, identify key gaps, and chart a collaborative path forward to accelerate the development of more effective, personalized, and accessible strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of sight-threatening diseases. We invite submissions of original research, methods articles, reviews, mini-reviews, perspectives, clinical trial reports, and brief research reports. We particularly welcome high-quality contributions that have not been published previously and are not under consideration by other journals or peer-reviewed conferences. We encourage investigators to present novel approaches and applications in clinical research, including new interpretations and methodologies, biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis, and the integration of AI into clinical research. Potential areas of clinical research include, but are not limited to:• Cornea and external disease• Cataract and refractive surgery• Glaucoma• Retinal disease• Ocular immunology and uveitis• Neuro-ophthalmology• Pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus• Ocular oncology• Oculoplastics and orbital surgery• Refractive error and visual rehabilitation• Artificial intelligence in ophthalmology• Tele-ophthalmology Topic editors: Huihui Fang, Weihua Yang, Andrzej Grzybowski, Zhongwen Li Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/77849/new-concepts-advances-and-future-trends-in-clinical-research-on-eye-diseases-volume
