New Strategies for Diagnosis, Monitoring, and Treatment of Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a rapidly growing and complex clinical syndrome, now accounting for nearly half of all heart failure cases worldwide. Despite its increasing incidence and substantial burden on patient morbidity and mortality, HFpEF remains incompletely understood. Heterogeneous clinical presentations, a high prevalence of comorbidities, and the lack of universally accepted diagnostic criteria or reliable biomarkers all continue to impede accurate diagnosis and optimal care. These challenges have also limited the development of targeted therapies, resulting in persistent gaps in outcomes for this patient population. As specific therapies for HFpEF begin to emerge, the need for precise markers to facilitate early diagnosis, guide therapy monitoring, and enable more accurate prognostic estimation is more timely than ever. This Research Topic aims to spotlight and advance innovative approaches for the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of HFpEF. Our goal is to bridge existing knowledge gaps by gathering the latest scientific discoveries and forward-looking perspectives that can drive progress in HFpEF detection and treatment, ultimately improving patient outcomes. We particularly encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and translational research that can bring novel insights from the laboratory to the clinical setting. We invite authors to submit original research articles, reviews, clinical studies, and case reports addressing key aspects of HFpEF, including but not limited to:• Development and validation of diagnostic tools and biomarkers• Advances in cardiac imaging, patient risk stratification, and phenotyping• New pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment modalities• Exploration of digital health solutions• Advances in remote patient monitoring• Multidisciplinary approaches to HFpEF care• Meta-analyses and critical perspectives offering new directions for future HFpEF researchThrough this collection, our aim is to foster a dynamic exchange of ideas, highlight promising new strategies, and accelerate the translation of emerging science into meaningful improvements for individuals living with HFpEF.
