Novel Advances in Cardiovascular Diseases: Mechanisms, Mediators, and Investigation Models
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide, despite intensive research efforts and technological advancements. Understanding the fundamental mechanisms that govern vascular health and disease, alongside the translation of these discoveries into therapeutic strategies, is imperative to reducing the global burden of CVDs. Recent breakthroughs in molecular biology, genomics, and bioengineering have transformed our understanding of the complexities underlying cardiovascular pathobiology. Despite extensive research, significant gaps remain in our understanding of the complex mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases. The interplay between molecular, genetic, and epigenetic factors in the pathobiology of the human vascular wall is not yet fully elucidated. Traditional animal models, though useful, often fail to recapitulate the intricacies of human cardiovascular biology and disease, limiting their translational potential. There is also a pressing need for the discovery and robust validation of novel biomarkers and drug targets for meaningful clinical application. Advancing research in these areas is essential for closing these gaps, fostering the development of innovative diagnostics and therapeutics, and ultimately reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease worldwide. This Research Topic aims to showcase the most recent advancements in basic and translational research in the field of cardiovascular diseases. We invite different article types that provide new insights into the molecular and cellular mechanisms of vascular pathology, innovative in vitro models, and the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The ultimate goal of this collection is to bridge the gap between fundamental discoveries and their clinical application, facilitating the translation of bench-side research into bedside care. This topic welcomes but it is not limited to scientific articles on the following themes:• Molecular and epigenetic mechanisms governing the pathobiology of the human vascular wall, including novel mediators and triggers• Human models of cardiovascular disease for in vitro applications, including innovative methods for overcoming animal research, 2D and 3D models, organoids, static and dynamic environment• Translational research: identification of novel candidate biomarkers (i.e. microRNA, circRNA, extracellular vesicles)• Basic research of alternative and innovative drug approaches Topic editors: Carmen Ciavarella, Sabrina Valente, Mabel Buelna-Chontal Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/72685/novel-advances-in-cardiovascular-diseases-mechanisms-mediators-and-investigation-models
