Novel Mechanisms of Bacterial Pathogenicity in Livestock and Poultry

Investigating the pathogenic mechanisms of bacteria has consistently remained a central concern in the realm of infectious diseases in livestock and poultry. In recent years, with the widespread emergence of drug-resistant bacteria, the strategy of bacteria achieving disease progression through new mechanisms has attracted widespread attention. By employing novel pathogenic mechanisms, these bacteria not only manage to persist both inside and outside the host but also evade the host's innate immune recognition. Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for developing new antibacterial therapies and vaccines. In this special issue, we aim to bring together a diverse range of experts from various fields, including microbiology and immunology, to shed light on the complex interplay between the pathogenic mechanism of bacteria and the host's immune system. We believe that this special topic will provide a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of how bacteria cause disease in livestock and poultry, and how the host defends against them, and will highlight recent advances in this important field. We believe that this special issue will provide valuable insights for researchers, clinical veterinarians, and policymakers, and will help advance our understanding of bacterial pathogenesis in livestock and poutry. The potential topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to:• Understanding the contribution of bacterial virulence factors to disease progression.• Analyzing the role of virulence factors in bacterial persistence both within and outside the host.• Investigating how virulence factors interact with cellular targets and signaling pathways to exert their effects.• Exploring the role of virulence factors in evading the host's immune response.• Utilizing bacterial virulence factors as tools for novel research applications and therapeutic development. If you are interested in submitting or have any questions, please contact the journal email: bacteriology@frontiersin.org.
