Novel Radiotherapeutic Strategies in Genitourinary Oncology

Recent years have seen remarkable progress in the application of radiotherapy for the management of genitourinary (GU) malignancies, including prostate, bladder/urothelial, renal, testicular, and penile cancers. Technical innovations such as stereotactic body radiotherapy, particle therapy, adaptive planning, and precision image guidance have enabled unprecedented accuracy and personalization of care, reshaping curative intent and palliative strategies alike. In parallel, the integration of radiotherapy with systemic treatments, including novel immunotherapies, targeted agents, and radiopharmaceuticals, is transforming the multidisciplinary landscape of GU oncology. This Research Topic aims to spotlight emerging radiotherapeutic strategies in genitourinary oncology. We welcome original research and scholarly contributions that explore:• Innovative radiotherapy modalities (e.g., SBRT, proton or heavy ion therapy, brachytherapy, MR-guided treatments, adaptive approaches) in GU cancers.• Optimizing radiotherapy in combination with systemic therapies (immunotherapy, hormonal treatments, targeted therapies, radiopharmaceuticals, chemotherapy, and beyond).• Emerging indications for radiotherapy such as oligometastatic disease, radiosensitization, and ablation in advanced GU tumors.• Radiotherapy for rare or understudied GU malignancies• Radiogenomics and biomarker-driven personalization.• Imaging advances to guide, plan, and assess radiotherapy (e.g., molecular/functional imaging, radiomics, AI-enabled applications).• Preclinical, clinical, translational, and health services research that advance knowledge of radiotherapy in genitourinary oncology.• Current challenges in access, toxicity mitigation, and long-term survivorship after radiotherapy. We invite oncologists, radiation oncologists, urologists, physicists, radiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, and translational researchers to submit original articles, reviews, perspectives, and methods papers. Please note: manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent clinical or patient cohort, or biological validation in vitro or in vivo, which are not based on public databases) are not suitable for publication in this journal.
