Nutrition Across the Reproductive Life Stages: Dietary Strategies to Support Women's Health

Women's nutritional requirements evolve throughout the reproductive lifespan, from adolescence and reproductive years to pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause and menopause. These life stages are characterized by dynamic hormonal, metabolic and physiological changes that influence reproductive function, long-term health and disease risk. Emerging evidence suggests that nutrition plays a fundamental role in modulating endocrine function, inflammation, metabolic health and the gut microbiome, with implications for menstrual health, fertility, pregnancy outcomes and healthy ageing. Despite increasing research in this field, evidence remains fragmented across disciplines, limiting the translation of nutritional science into effective clinical and public health strategies. A life-stage approach offers an opportunity to better understand how dietary patterns, nutrients and nutrition-based interventions can support women's hormonal health and improve health outcomes throughout the reproductive lifespan. This Research Topic aims to bring together multidisciplinary research that explores the role of nutrition in supporting women's health across different reproductive life stages. We seek to advance understanding of how dietary patterns, specific nutrients, nutritional status and targeted interventions influence hormonal regulation, reproductive function and overall health from adolescence through menopause. By integrating perspectives from nutrition science, reproductive biology, endocrinology, obstetrics and gynaecology, epidemiology and public health, this collection aims to identify emerging mechanisms, evaluate clinical evidence and highlight opportunities for translation into practice. We welcome research that informs prevention, disease management and health optimisation, while recognising the unique nutritional needs that arise throughout a woman's reproductive journey. Ultimately, this Research Topic seeks to provide a comprehensive resource that supports evidence-based nutritional strategies to improve women's reproductive and lifelong health. This Research Topic welcomes Original Research, Systematic Reviews, Meta-analyses, Narrative Reviews, Mini Reviews, Clinical Trials, Perspectives and Opinion articles.
