Omics, Microbiome Science, and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Aquaculture

Aquaculture is one of the most rapidly growing sectors in terms of food production in the world, but its sustainability faces numerous challenges. Recent advances in omics technologies, microbiome science, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence (AI) offer unlimited opportunities to address these challenges and promote resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible aquaculture systems. This research topic aims to showcase cutting-edge research applying genomics, transcriptomics, metagenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microbiome science, bioinformatics, and AI to advance sustainable aquaculture. We welcome studies that improve our understanding of aquatic animal health, disease dynamics, antimicrobial resistance, environmental monitoring, biodiversity conservation, precision farming, and ecosystem resilience. Particular emphasis will be placed on the integration of multi-omics datasets with machine learning and AI approaches to uncover complex biological interactions, generate predictive insights, and support data-driven decision-making in aquaculture operations. This research topic also seeks contributions focusing on AI-powered predictive analytics and precision aquaculture, including disease diagnosis and forecasting, performance optimization, environmental risk prediction, and climate adaptation strategies. In addition, innovative bioinformatics approaches for environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis, biodiversity monitoring, pathogen detection, and antimicrobial resistance surveillance are highly encouraged. We invite contributions from researchers in aquaculture, fisheries science, microbiology, genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, computational biology, environmental sciences, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and precision aquaculture. Original research articles, reviews, perspectives, methods papers, and case studies are all welcome. Topics covered, but not limited to, include integrating omics, microbiome science, and artificial intelligence to address key challenges in sustainable aquaculture.Developing advanced bioinformatics and machine learning frameworks for large-scale aquaculture omics data analysis and predictive modelling.
