One‑Dimensional Nanomaterials for Nano‑Enabled Diagnostics and Therapeutics: Fabrication, Biointerface Engineering, Biosensing, and Translational Technologies

One-dimensional (1D) nanomaterials, such as nanowires, nanotubes, and nanorods, have emerged as critical building blocks in the advancing field of nanomedicine. Their anisotropic geometry, high surface-to-volume ratio, and tunable physicochemical properties make them particularly suitable for integration in biosensing and therapeutic platforms. Despite significant progress, the translation of 1D nanostructures into clinical and industrial settings remains limited by challenges in scalable fabrication, reproducibility, safety, and biointerface control. Recent studies have demonstrated the potential of 1D nanostructures in multiplexed biosensing, minimally invasive diagnostics, and combined therapeutic delivery, yet the mechanistic understanding of their interactions with biological systems and how fabrication choices impact such interactions remains incomplete. Bridging this knowledge gap is essential for optimizing device performance and ensuring safe, reproducible outcomes in clinical environments. This Research Topic aims to advance the understanding and technological development of one-dimensional nanomaterials for biomedical use by integrating materials design, fabrication science, and biological evaluation. Specifically, it seeks to clarify the mechanisms linking synthesis routes to biointerface behavior, elucidate how 1D geometry influences biological fate and function, and define design principles for achieving performance optimization in diagnostic and theranostic applications. By fostering dialogue across materials science, engineering, and biomedical disciplines, the topic will drive innovation toward reproducible and translatable nano-enabled healthcare technologies. To gather further insights into the scalable manufacturing and translational integration of 1D nanostructures in diagnostics and therapeutics, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Scalable synthesis and structural control of 1D nanomaterials• Characterization of nanomaterial-biological interfaces and biointeraction mechanisms• Influence of geometry and surface modification on biodistribution and cellular responses• Integration of 1D nanostructures into biosensing, diagnostic, and theranostic platforms• Strategies for enhancing biocompatibility, safety, and reproducibility• Translational pathways and regulatory considerations for nano-enabled healthcare products• Computational or modeling approaches to predict and optimize biointerface behavior Topic editors: Ateet Dutt, Dr. Lakshmi G B V S Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/81822/one-dimensional-nanomaterials-for-nano-enabled-diagnostics-and-therapeutics-fabrication-biointerface-engineering-biosensing-and-translational-technologies
