Optic Capture in Ophthalmic Surgery: Techniques and Future Applications

Ophthalmic surgery has been revolutionised by a technique known as Optic Capture, where an opening smaller than the intraocular lens (IOL) optic is created in the lens capsule to secure the IOL, ensuring fixation, centration, and long-term stability. This technique has proven to be a pivotal innovation in the field, providing enhanced outcomes for patients undergoing eye surgery. Despite its advantages, the current understanding and application of optic capture are varied, pointing to the need for a deeper analysis and broader dissemination of knowledge regarding its efficacy and adaptability. This Research Topic aims to map out the present landscape and expand the future horizons of optic capture techniques. By assessing current procedures and proposing innovative applications, this topic seeks to foster a transformative discussion on improving surgical outcomes through advanced IOL fixation methods. Key goals include exploring novel optic capture variations, enhancing IOL stability, and developing future IOL designs that leverage capsular fixation techniques. To gather further insights within this specialised field, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Haptics in the sulcus and IOL optic capture through a continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC)- Haptics in the sulcus with IOL optic capture through an anterior capsule opening and a posterior CCC- Haptics in the capsular bag and IOL optic capture through a PCCC- Haptics in the capsular bag and IOL optic capture through an anterior CCC- Haptics in the sulcus and IOL capture through a capsular membrane opening- Haptics posterior to the capsular bag and IOL capture through a capsular membrane opening- Optic through an anterior CCC to secure a toric IOL- Emerging techniques in optic capture for enhanced IOL fixation and stability Topic editors: Brian M DeBroff, Lisa Brothers Arbisser Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/69542/optic-capture-in-ophthalmic-surgery-techniques-and-future-applications
