Optimization of Indoor Air Quality and Human Health in Smart Buildings
Driven by the advancement of smart buildings and rising health demands, indoor air quality profoundly affects human physical and mental health and living comfort. This Research Topic focuses on indoor air quality optimization and human health protection, integrating AI, big data technologies, and innovative functional materials. It covers intelligent pollutant monitoring, tracing, and dynamic regulation strategies for diverse indoor scenarios, as well as the application of high-performance purification materials. This Research Topic aims to integrate interdisciplinary research, bridge theoretical and practical gaps, and provide technical support for the development of healthy and intelligent indoor environments.Poor indoor air quality poses persistent threats to human respiratory and mental health in residential, office, and medical spaces. Traditional fixed ventilation and offline pollutant detection fail to capture real-time pollutant fluctuations, lacking precise early warning and targeted control. Although smart building hardware and AI big data analytics have achieved preliminary progress in environmental perception, there remains a disconnect between multi-source air pollutant data and automatic indoor air regulation systems. This Research Topic aims to tackle the above gaps by summarizing cutting-edge advances in AI-driven pollutant tracing, big-data-based health risk assessment, and intelligent air conditioning logic. It collects original studies and case reports to establish integrated monitoring-prediction-control frameworks. The ultimate goal is to deliver actionable technical schemes for smart buildings to reduce indoor air hazards and safeguard occupants’ health. This Research Topic accepts studies centered on indoor air quality and occupant health empowered by AI and smart building techniques. Eligible themes include real-time indoor pollutant monitoring, big-data-based health risk evaluation, AI pollutant source identification, automatic ventilation and air purification control, and intelligent air environment management across residential, office, and healthcare buildings. We welcome Original Research, Review Articles, and Case Reports. All submissions should combine intelligent algorithms or smart building operation data, deliver practical strategies to mitigate indoor air pollutants, and lower health risks for indoor occupants.
