Personalised and Precision Obstetric Anesthesia: Genomics, Artificial Intelligence, and the Future of Tailored Maternal Care

The integration of artificial intelligence, pharmacogenomics, and precision medicine represents the next frontier in obstetric anesthesiology. This Research Topic explores how individualised, data-driven approaches can transform anesthetic care for pregnant women across the full spectrum of risk. Contributions are invited that examine the role of genomic and metabolomic profiling in predicting individual anesthetic requirements and outcomes, the application of AI and machine learning to clinical decision-making and real-time monitoring in obstetric settings, and the development of personalised anesthetic protocols for both routine and high-risk pregnancies. The collection also welcomes work on the ethical, regulatory, and equity dimensions of implementing precision medicine in diverse obstetric populations globally, the integration of enhanced recovery after caesarean (ERAC) pathways informed by personalised physiological data, and future-oriented proposals for AI-assisted drug delivery and predictive outcome modelling. This Research Topic aims to chart a scientifically rigorous and ethically informed roadmap for the personalisation of obstetric anesthetic care.
