Personalized and Digital Strategies in Alveolar Bone Augmentation

Alveolar bone augmentation remains a fundamental procedure in contemporary oral and maxillofacial rehabilitation. Increasing anatomical complexity and patient-specific defect morphology have driven the transition from conventional, operator-dependent approaches to digitally assisted, personalized strategies. The integration of advanced imaging, virtual planning, and computer-aided manufacturing technologies has enabled more precise three-dimensional adaptation of regenerative constructs, enhancing surgical accuracy and predictability. These personalized digital approaches may reduce intraoperative time, streamline surgical workflows, and potentially decrease complication rates through improved preoperative planning and construct adaptation. However, despite rapid technological evolution, variability persists in clinical protocols, biological responses, and outcome reporting. A focused scientific discussion evaluating the clinical translation, advantages, and limitations of these evolving strategies is therefore timely and necessary.Despite the growing integration of digital technologies and personalized surgical solutions in alveolar bone augmentation, a substantial gap remains between technological advancement and consolidated clinical evidence. Current literature is marked by heterogeneous methodologies, limited comparative data, and inconsistent reporting standards, which hinder the establishment of robust clinical guidelines. Although digitally assisted approaches promise enhanced precision and reduced operative time, their long-term biological impact and true clinical advantage require further clarification. This Research Topic aims to critically synthesize and advance current knowledge by gathering high-quality clinical and translational research focused on digital and personalized augmentation strategies. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and methodological rigor, this collection seeks to promote standardized outcome reporting, strengthen evidence-based decision-making, and support the responsible clinical implementation of innovation in alveolar bone reconstruction. This Research Topic welcomes contributions addressing contemporary digital and personalized approaches in alveolar bone augmentation across surgical disciplines.
