Precision and Intelligence in Next-Generation GNSS: Integrating Multi-Frequency, Multi-Constellation, and LEO Technologies

The rapid evolution of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) is marked by the expansion of multi-frequency signals, the proliferation of constellations (GPS, BDS, Galileo, etc.), and the emergence of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) mega-constellations. These advancements bring both opportunities and challenges. On one hand, they promise high accuracy, availability, and robustness for positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT). On the other, they introduce complexities such as inter-frequency biases, increased susceptibility to interference, and the need for advanced data processing techniques to harness the full potential of heterogeneous space-based assets. This Research Topic aims to capture the latest research at the intersection of precision GNSS data processing, artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning, and the integration of LEO satellites with traditional GNSS. We seek contributions that address the fundamental challenges in exploiting modernized GNSS and LEO signals, with a focus on enhancing the accuracy, and integrity of PNT solutions for scientific and commercial applications. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• Precise Modeling and Estimation: Advanced methods for calibrating multi-GNSS inter-frequency and inter-system biases; precise clock and orbit determination integrating GNSS and LEO observations; improving ambiguity resolution for rapid convergence.• AI for GNSS Intelligence: Application of machine learning and deep learning for signal quality monitoring, interference detection and mitigation, tropospheric/ionospheric delay modeling, and anomaly detection in multi-source data streams.• LEO-Enhanced GNSS: Algorithms and performance analysis for LEO-aided rapid PPP convergence and ambiguity resolution; LEO satellite orbit determination using GNSS; LEO-based GNSS signal reflectometry (GNSS-R) and occultation for Earth observation.• Robust PNT: Multi-sensor fusion (INS, LiDAR, etc.) with GNSS/LEO; integrity monitoring frameworks for safety-critical applications; anti-jamming and spoofing resilience in multi-frequency, multi-constellation.
