Precision Medicine and Stakeholders: Where Do We Stand and How to Enhance the Role of Involved Stakeholders?

Precision medicine, particularly pharmacogenomics (PGx), has witnessed significant advancements in recent years. Innovations have emerged that can revolutionize modern medicine and drug management through simple genetic tests. It is now possible for individuals to receive tailored treatment plans based on their genetic results; however, the process is not without its complexities. Multiple stakeholders, including patients, healthcare professionals, government agents, insurance companies, and others, must collaborate to facilitate access to such testing. Given the multifaceted nature of the process, obtaining approval for launching PGx testing in the healthcare market and incorporating it into clinical practice is a protracted journey. While PGx testing is gaining traction due to its promising clinical potential, its adoption rate remains low, and its current cost-effectiveness remains a subject of ongoing debate. A significant barrier impeding the wider implementation of PGx testing is the lack of awareness among stakeholders, alongside concerns regarding whether the rapid enthusiasm for these technologies is sufficiently supported by clinical evidence. This Research Topic seeks to explore the opinions, perceptions, and intentions of various stakeholders involved in PGx regarding its implementation, as well as strategies to increase PGx visibility and familiarity among them.We encourage submissions showcasing initiatives, activities, or recommendations aimed at informing and raising awareness about PGx. Furthermore, as PGx-related stakeholders may vary across healthcare systems, it is highly encouraged to provide insights into the role of each stakeholder in different countries and highlight any potential cultural distinctiveness on this subject. To gather further insights into the current status of PGx testing, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Role of key stakeholders in PGx testing in different healthcare settings. Stakeholders related can be patients, physicians, pharmacists, clinical pharmacologists, nurses, geneticists, insurers, genetic counselors, policymakers, or governmental agents.• Attitudes, level of knowledge, perceptions, and opinions of stakeholders.• Economic evaluations and cost-effectiveness of PGx. This includes analyzing whether personalized medicine increases or reduces overall healthcare costs and exploring the "value-for-money" in different clinical contexts.• Evidence-based implementation. Addressing when and how PGx should be appropriately used, ensuring that clinical application does not outpace the supporting evidence.• Recommendations, suggestions, and strategies to improve the PGx adoption rate.• Initiatives and activities implemented to inform or train professionals.• Marketing strategies to increase awareness and adoption rate.Topic Editor, Maha Saber-Ayad received a grant from GSK on "immunotherapy forcolorectal cancer" Topic editors: Margarita-Ioanna Koufaki, Mohamed Nagy, Maha Mohamed Saber-Ayad Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/75324/precision-medicine-and-stakeholders-where-do-we-stand-and-how-to-enhance-the-role-of-involved-stakeholders
