Precision neurorehabilitation after stroke: multimodal biomarkers and personalized recovery trajectories

Stroke remains one of the leading causes of long-term disability worldwide and is frequently associated with persistent motor, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral deficits. Despite significant advances in acute management and rehabilitation strategies, recovery trajectories remain highly heterogeneous. This variability underscores the urgent need for improved prognostic tools and personalized therapeutic approaches. Recent advances in neuroimaging, neurophysiology, biomechanics, and neuropsychological assessment have created new opportunities to identify biomarkers that better characterize neural plasticity and functional recovery processes. Moreover, the integration of multimodal datasets using advanced computational and machine learning techniques is increasingly supporting precision rehabilitation and evidence-based clinical decision-making.This Research Topic aims to provide a multidisciplinary platform that brings together clinicians, neuroscientists, neuropsychologists, rehabilitation specialists, engineers, and data scientists to advance our understanding of recovery mechanisms and promote personalized neurorehabilitation strategies. It builds on ongoing interdisciplinary research efforts aimed at integrating neurobiological and behavioral markers to advance stroke rehabilitation research. We particularly welcome submissions of Original Research, Reviews, Methods, and Perspective articles on the following but not limited to subtopics:• Structural and functional neuroimaging biomarkers of recovery• Neurophysiological markers of cortical reorganization and plasticity• Biomechanical and digital biomarkers of motor performance and gait• Neuropsychological predictors of functional and cognitive outcomes• Artificial intelligence and predictive modeling in rehabilitation• Non-invasive brain stimulation and neuromodulation approaches• Personalized and precision rehabilitation protocols• Rehabilitation of post-stroke neurocognitive disorders• Translational and real-world clinical rehabilitation studies• Telerehabilitation and digital health technologies Topic editors: Anna Tsiakiri, Nikos Aggelousis, Dimitrios Tsiptsios, Foteini Christidi Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/79698/precision-neurorehabilitation-after-stroke-multimodal-biomarkers-and-personalized-recovery-trajectories
