Preservation-Based Approaches: An Early Step Toward Precision Models in Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentistry is increasingly defined by its move toward minimally invasive, patient-centered restorative approaches that prioritize the conservation of healthy dental tissues. Within this context, preservation-based techniques have gained prominence, offering a foundation for contemporary precision and personalized care models. Emerging evidence signals that these approaches lead to better clinical outcomes for children, reduce procedural discomfort, and foster positive long-term oral health behaviors. However, core questions remain around the integration of preservation-based strategies with innovative diagnostic tools, digital workflows, and individualized risk assessment methods that typify precision dentistry today. This Research Topic aims to illuminate the mechanisms by which preservation-based restorative methods are transforming pediatric dental care into a more precise and personalized practice. It seeks to address how these approaches can be optimized to enhance clinical decision-making, tailor interventions to each child’s specific risk profile, and deliver superior patient experiences. Key objectives include evaluating the effectiveness of various preservation-based techniques, exploring promising biomimetic materials, and identifying best practices for implementing these strategies within diverse pediatric populations. To gather further insights in the intersection of preservation-based and precision approaches in pediatric restorative dentistry, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Advances in minimally invasive, preservation-focused restorative techniques• Integration of precision diagnostics and risk assessment in pediatric care• Use of biomimetic and tissue-conserving materials• Digital workflows supporting preservation-based interventions• Patient engagement and behavioral strategies for minimally invasive care• Implementation challenges and solutions for personalized restorative models in pediatric dentistry Topic editors: Ziad Baghdadi, Maher Almasri, Vaibhav Kumar, Mohammad-Adel Moufti Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/75876/preservation-based-approaches-an-early-step-toward-precision-models-in-pediatric-dentistry
