Proteins and Lipids in Neurodegenerative Diseases: Insights from In Vitro and In Vivo Models
Neurodegenerative diseases damage the nervous systems, often causing unexpected and psychologically devastating effects. Early diagnosis, treatment, and cure for these pathologies are frequently lacking or significantly delayed. A central goal of healthy aging research is preserving normal brain function, recognizing the crucial role of maintaining cognitive abilities for overall well-being. Investigating proteomic, lipidomic, metabolomic, and epigenetic modifications induced by neurodegenerative diseases in both in vitro and in vivo models can offer new insights into disease onset mechanisms and inform the development of lifestyle parameters to counteract neurodegeneration. The aim of this Research Topic is to sum up recent advances in protein misfolding and aggregation, omics studies, epigenetics and nutrigenomics in neurodegenerative diseases, and to provide an overview of current practices and protocols for studying the early events in neurodegenerative disease onset and progression. We welcome submissions of original research, reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, perspectives, and commentaries covering topics ranging from molecular and cellular biophysics to animal models of disease:- Protein misfolding and aggregation- Protein-protein and protein-lipid interactions- Cellular crosstalk and novel evidence in neurodegeneration- Lipidomics, Epigenetics, Nutrigenomics in neurodegenerative diseases- Neuroinflammation and neuro-oxidative pathways Topic editors: Luciana Mosca, Annalisa Pastore, Andrea Fuso Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/70971/proteins-and-lipids-in-neurodegenerative-diseases-insights-from-in-vitro-and-in-vivo-models
