Psychological Resilience and Well-being Across Contexts: Integrative Approaches from Positive Psychology
Psychological resilience has emerged as a foundational construct within the field of positive psychology, capturing the capacity for individuals to adapt and thrive in the face of adversity. Recent research emphasizes that resilience is not a fixed trait, but rather a dynamic and multidimensional process resulting from the continuous interplay between personal characteristics (such as cognitive styles, emotional regulation, and personality traits), relational support systems (notably family, peers, and other social networks), and contextual variables (including educational, occupational, and broader sociocultural environments). Despite increased recognition of its complexity, important questions remain regarding how these factors collectively shape resilience trajectories across different life stages and within varied population groups. Cutting-edge studies highlight both protective and risk factors, while ongoing debates center on the relative influence of individual agency versus systemic supports in fostering long-term adaptation and well-being.In parallel, there is growing consensus on the value of holistic intervention strategies designed to enhance resilience. Positive psychology interventions, in particular, have demonstrated promise in reinforcing core strengths, reducing stress, and promoting psychological well-being. However, much of the literature underscores the urgent need for systematic evaluation of these approaches across diverse life stages, abilities, and socio-cultural backgrounds. Recent findings point to significant benefits from tailored interventions, yet there are notable gaps in knowledge regarding their long-term effectiveness, scalability, and adaptability within real-world contexts. This Research Topic aims to deepen understanding of resilience as an adaptive, context-sensitive process and to explore the transformative potential of interventions rooted in positive psychology. The objectives include elucidating how personal, relational, and contextual factors interact to support adaptation; identifying pathways that enable growth and well-being in the face of adversity; and systematically evaluating the efficacy, transferability, and sustainability of positive psychology interventions across a spectrum of populations and settings. To gather further insights into the multifaceted nature of resilience and its promotion through positive psychology, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Mechanisms and developmental trajectories of resilience across the lifespan, from childhood to older adulthood.- Resilience among populations with diverse cognitive, emotional, and functional profiles, including individuals with high abilities.- The role of educational settings and interventions at different academic and professional stages.- Occupational and professional factors influencing coping, adaptation, and growth in varied work environments.- Resilience in athletic and high-performance contexts, exploring adaptation to injury, pressure, and competition.- The impact of diverse socio-cultural contexts, including vulnerable and marginalized populations, on resilience and well-being.- Systematic evaluation and innovative design of positive psychology interventions, focusing on effectiveness, adaptability, and long-term impact.- Conceptual and empirical contributions that integrate resilience and positive psychology perspectives across different life transitions and societal challenges.Appendix: We invite a range of article types, including original research, reviews, theoretical perspectives, methodological innovations, case studies, and brief reports.
