Rare Breast Cancers and Phyllodes Tumors
Breast tumors are among the most commonly encountered malignancies in clinical practice. Yet, practitioners occasionally face unexpectedly rare entities that challenge conventional diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Phyllodes tumors and rare breast cancers present unique dilemmas that extend beyond their low incidence—they often require individualized management decisions, with limited evidence-based guidance.Across the globe, clinicians, nurses, and pharmacists find themselves navigating these complex cases with uncertainty, often feeling isolated in their decision-making processes. The rarity of these conditions means that even experienced practitioners may encounter them only sporadically throughout their careers, limiting opportunities to build expertise through repetition.Perhaps most importantly, each challenging case represents an opportunity for mutual learning. The diagnostic puzzle solved in one institution today may provide the missing piece for a colleague facing a similar dilemma tomorrow. Through sharing our experiences, both successes and setbacks, we create a collective knowledge base that transcends geographical boundaries. This Research Topic aims to capture these valuable clinical encounters, recognizing that every contributed case has the potential to guide and reassure fellow healthcare providers somewhere in the world who may be facing similar challenges. This Research Topic focuses on documenting the clinical realities of rare breast cancers and phyllodes tumors. These cases often leave practitioners uncertain about the best approach, particularly when textbook descriptions do not match what they encounter in practice. The collection emphasizes practical challenges: difficult diagnoses that took unexpected turns, treatments that did not work as expected, and cases where standard protocols proved inadequate. By sharing these experiences, clinicians can learn from each other's encounters with unusual presentations and management dilemmas.Beyond individual case reports, this topic welcomes insights from genetic testing, emerging therapies, and multidisciplinary care approaches. The hope is simple—that documenting these challenging cases will help colleagues facing similar situations in their own hospitals and clinics. Sometimes knowing that someone else has navigated a similar diagnostic puzzle or treatment challenge can make all the difference in patient care.● Challenging diagnostic cases of rare breast cancers and phyllodes tumors● Extremely rare case reports● Treatment-resistant or complex management cases● Cases with unusual clinical course● Miscellaneous (genetic testing, molecular insights, novel therapeutics, and collaborative care models)Please note: Manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent clinical or patient cohort, or biological validation in vitro or in vivo, which are not based on public databases) are not suitable for publication in this journal.
