Recent Advances in Cardiovascular Endocrinology

NOTE: This Research Topic is restricted to invited submissions only. Cardiovascular endocrinology has entered a period of rapid expansion, driven by advances in molecular profiling, translational therapeutics, and integrative risk modeling. Hormonal signaling pathways once considered secondary modifiers of cardiovascular disease are now recognized as central determinants of vascular function, cardiac remodeling, metabolic risk, and therapeutic response. At the same time, endocrine biomarkers and hormone-targeted therapies are reshaping cardiovascular prevention and heart failure management, including in individuals with and without diabetes. This flagship Research Topic will highlight the most significant recent advances defining the field of cardiovascular endocrinology. Rather than providing broad overviews, the collection will synthesize cutting-edge mechanistic insights, emerging biomarkers, novel risk stratification approaches, and transformative therapeutic developments that are redefining clinical paradigms. Particular emphasis will be placed on endocrine mechanisms that directly influence cardiovascular structure, function, and outcomes, as well as on translational frameworks linking molecular discovery to patient care.We welcome invited review articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Endocrine biomarkers for cardiovascular risk prediction, disease monitoring, and therapy guidance• Integrated risk stratification tools combining clinical variables, molecular profiling, and machine learning approaches in cardiovascular disease, with or without diabetes• Diabetes therapies with direct cardiovascular effects, including GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors• Cardiac endocrine signaling and heart-derived hormones• Metabolic hormones, including GLP-1, GIP, and adipokines, in cardiovascular disease pathophysiology and treatment• Hormonal regulation of cardiac fibrosis, hypertrophy, and adverse remodeling• Thyroid dysfunction and cardiovascular outcomes across the lifespan• Sex hormones and sex-specific cardiovascular pathways• Adrenal hormones and neurohormonal activation in heart failure• Gut–heart endocrine interactions and cardiometabolic signaling• Bone–vascular hormonal crosstalk, including FGF23 and osteocalcinThis invitation-only collection will bring together leading experts to provide authoritative, forward-looking syntheses of the most impactful developments in the field. By integrating mechanistic discovery with clinical application, this Research Topic aims to define current frontiers in cardiovascular endocrinology and to outline priorities for the next generation of translational and clinical research.
