Research Progress on Design, Modeling and Optimization on Integrated Filter and Antennas

Filters and antennas are indispensable components in the RF front end of wireless communication systems. Traditionally, these components are connected in series to accomplish signal transmission and reception, but this approach often results in issues such as poor impedance matching, increased physical size, and greater signal loss. With the rapid progress in wireless communication technology, there has been increasing attention on the integrated design of antennas and filters. Not only can this integration reduce circuit size, but it can also significantly improve the matching between different circuit elements, effectively suppress harmonics, and enhance the anti-interference capability of antennas through the use of filtering antennas. This Research Topic aims to explore innovative methods, novel structures, and advanced materials for the integrated design of filtering antennas and their arrays, as well as practical applications in communication and sensing. We invite contributions that push forward the design, modeling, and optimization of integrated filter–antenna solutions where the functions of radiation and filtering are co-designed instead of being simply cascaded. Building on the expertise of the Topic Editors in microwave filtering devices such as diplexers, filtering power dividers, filtering couplers, baluns, filtering phase shifters, and wideband or dual-band filtering antenna arrays, we particularly encourage research that bridges integrated filtering circuits and antenna or array performance—focusing on aspects like matching, overall efficiency, suppression of out-of-band signals, harmonic control, and operational robustness. The objective is to foster the development of new types of filtering antennas and antenna arrays with superior integration, reduced footprint, and enhanced electromagnetic compatibility. The scope of this Research Topic includes, but is not limited to, the following themes:-Filtering antennas, including compact and wideband/dual-band designs-Antenna arrays incorporating integrated filtering functionality-Filtering circuits and integrated filtering networks (e.g., microwave filters, diplexers, filtering power dividers, filtering couplers)-Applications of filtering antennas in communication and sensing-Modeling and optimization strategies for filtering antennas and arrays-Co-simulation and circuit–EM co-design techniques-Experimental validation and performance characterization, including S-parameters and over-the-air measurements Topic editors: Jian-Kang Xiao, Jefferson Silva Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/81660/research-progress-on-design-modeling-and-optimization-on-integrated-filter-and-antennas
