Reviews in Cancer Genetics and Oncogenomics

Frontiers in Genetics is delighted to present the ‘Reviews in Cancer Genetics and Oncogenomics’ article collection. This Research Topic seeks to publish high-quality scholarly review articles on recent advances, emerging challenges, and unresolved questions at the forefront of cancer genetics and oncogenomics. Our goal is to advance the understanding of cancer biology across the full translational arc - from molecular mechanisms and risk stratification to therapeutic innovation and clinical implementation - by synthesizing the most impactful developments in the field and identifying critical gaps that remain unaddressed in the current literature. Authors are encouraged to critically appraise the state of the science, integrate findings across experimental and computational domains, and articulate forward-looking perspectives that can catalyze novel diagnostics, predictive biomarkers, and improved outcomes for cancer patients. We invite comprehensive review articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Multi-omics integration for deciphering cancer complexity and identifying actionable biomarkers for early detection, disease stratification, prognosis, and treatment response monitoring• Computational and AI-driven approaches for interpreting somatic and germline alterations, including large language models, deep learning architectures, and multi-modal data fusion strategies applied to cancer genomics• Cancer susceptibility and inherited risk, with emphasis on family-based and population-scale studies, polygenic risk scores, and the imperative of ancestral diversity in genomic research• Tumor heterogeneity and the microenvironment, including clonal evolution, gene–environment interactions, immune evasion mechanisms, and spatially resolved omics technologies• Next-generation experimental models - including patient-derived organoids, xenografts, co-culture systems, and in silico platforms - enabling functional genomic studies and high-throughput therapeutic screening• Precision oncology and translational genomics, encompassing strategies for targeting genetic and epigenetic vulnerabilities, overcoming resistance mechanisms, and advancing novel drug development paradigmsThrough this collection, we aim to illuminate unmet needs across the cancer genomics landscape, foster interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration, and accelerate the responsible translation of genomic discoveries into equitable clinical practice.
