Reviews in Computational Neuroscience: 2026
Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience is pleased to present Reviews in Computational Neuroscience: 2026, part of our ongoing “Reviews in” series. This Research Topic will publish high-quality review articles that address recent advances in the theoretical modeling of brain function and promote dialogue between computational and experimental neuroscience. In line with the journal’s mission, this collection aims to strengthen the bridge between theoretical frameworks and empirical validation across all domains of computational neuroscience.Computational neuroscience seeks to uncover the principles by which neural systems encode, process, and transform information to generate perception, cognition, and adaptive behavior. From biophysically realistic simulations of neurons and synapses to abstract models of inference, learning, and decision-making, theoretical approaches provide mechanistic insights that can be tested and refined through experimental studies. As experimental techniques generate increasingly complex datasets, computational tools remain essential for integrating findings across scales, linking neural dynamics to behavior, and advancing our understanding of neurological and psychiatric conditions. This Research Topic welcomes review articles spanning the full breadth of computational neuroscience, including theoretical, modeling, experimental–computational integration, and translational perspectives. By consolidating current knowledge and identifying emerging challenges, this collection aims to shape future directions in the field and support the development of new frameworks for understanding brain function and dysfunction. Please note, only review articles will be accepted for this Research Topic. New articles will be added to this collection as they are published.
