Reviews in Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pharmacology: 2026–27

Reviews in Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pharmacology: 2026–27 will publish high-quality review articles addressing recent advances, persistent challenges, and future directions in the pharmacological management of gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders. Building on the 2024 collection, this follow-up Special Issue aims to capture a rapidly evolving therapeutic landscape shaped by precision medicine, immunopharmacology, microbiome science, metabolic therapeutics, artificial intelligence, novel drug delivery systems, and translational innovation. The collection will provide a platform for authoritative reviews on emerging and established therapies for gastrointestinal and liver diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, disorders of gut–brain interaction, acid-related diseases, gastrointestinal infections, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, cholestatic and autoimmune liver diseases, cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and hepatobiliary malignancies. Particular emphasis will be placed on novel mechanisms of action, biomarker-guided therapy, drug safety, real-world effectiveness, and the translation of pharmacological advances into clinical practice. We anticipate that the articles published in this Special Issue will stimulate discussion across the gastrointestinal and hepatic pharmacology communities and support the development of improved therapeutic strategies, clinical guidelines, public health approaches, and future research priorities. The Special Issue welcomes review articles on topics including, but not limited to:• Novel drug classes and therapeutic targets in gastrointestinal and hepatic diseases• Biologics, small molecules, immunotherapies, RNA-based therapies, gene therapies, and cell-based approaches• Precision medicine, pharmacogenomics, biomarkers, and therapeutic drug monitoring• Microbiome-directed therapies and gut–liver axis pharmacology• Pharmacological management of MASLD/MASH, liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and portal hypertension• Advances in IBD pharmacotherapy and mechanisms of treatment resistance• Drug-induced liver injury, gastrointestinal toxicity, and risk mitigation strategies• Pharmacokinetics and drug dosing in hepatic impairment and advanced liver disease• Hepatobiliary cancer pharmacology, including targeted therapy and immunotherapy• Novel drug delivery systems for gastrointestinal and hepatic indications• Artificial intelligence, digital health, and real-world evidence in pharmacological decision-making• Clinical trial innovation, regulatory perspectives, access, equity, and implementation science Topic editors: Ralf Weiskirchen, Anna Maria Giudetti Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/77355/reviews-in-gastrointestinal-and-hepatic-pharmacology-2026-27
