Reviews in Horticultural Crop Management
Frontiers in Horticulture is delighted to present the 'Reviews in' series of Research Topics. 'Reviews in' is a series being launched across Frontiers in Horticulture's sections, which aims to publish high-quality review articles on key topics within the field. The goal of this series is to highlight recent advances across horticultural disciplines, whilst emphasising important directions and new possibilities for future inquiry. We anticipate the research presented will promote discussion within the broader horticulture community and translate to best practice applications in research, industry, and policy settings. The Crop Management section covers the agronomic management and product quality of horticultural food crops, including vegetables, fruits, and medicinal, aromatic, and culinary herbs, across open-field, protected, and controlled-environment systems, and through conventional, organic, and regenerative production methods. As global horticulture confronts increasing pressure from climate change, resource constraints, and the urgent need to deliver high-quality, nutritious produce with a reduced environmental footprint, the demand for rigorous, synthesised knowledge on sustainable crop management has never been greater.Reviews in Horticultural Crop Management brings together high-quality scholarly review articles that map the current state of knowledge, identify critical knowledge gaps, and highlight future research priorities for advancing innovative production systems, environmentally friendly technologies, and management practices that enhance crop productivity and quality while safeguarding natural resources. The Reviews in Horticultural Crop Management collection welcomes Review, Mini-Review, and Systematic Review articles on topics within the scope of the Crop Management section. Topics covered include, but are not limited to:• Sustainable production systems and circular agriculture• Organic, conservation, and regenerative agriculture• Soil and substrate management and health• Plant–soil–microbe interactions• Plant nutrition and fertilizer management• Irrigation and water management• Crop management under protected cultivation and controlled-environment systems• Precision crop load management for quality optimization in tree fruit production• Climate-smart horticulture• Crop modeling and decision-support systems• Hydroponic, aquaponic, and bioponic production• Crop responses and adaptation to biotic and abiotic stresses• Application of biotechnologies in crop management• Urban and peri-urban farming systems• Agrobiodiversity, conservation, and the use of underutilized genetic resources• Commercial quality attributes and nutritional profiles• Agronomic biofortification.New articles will be visible in the collection as they are accepted for publication.
