Reviews in Interdisciplinary Physics: 2026
Frontiers in Physics is delighted to present “Reviews in Interdisciplinary Physics: 2026”. This Research Topic will feature authoritative Review, Mini Review and Perspective articles covering major advances at the interfaces of experimental, computational, and theoretical physics - highlighting unifying concepts, transferable methods, and emerging opportunities created when ideas move across traditional subfields. We welcome contributions that clarify our current understanding, outline remaining challenges in the field, and define the most promising directions for future research and innovation in interdisciplinary physics. We encourage Review, Mini Review and Perspective submissions that cover established and emerging areas such as:• Granular matter and particulate systems, spanning jamming, avalanches, rheology, segregation, and industrially relevant flows• Environmental physics, including physics-driven approaches to climate processes, geophysical hazards, transport in natural systems, and measurement strategies for environmental change• Nonlinear systems and non-equilibrium phenomena, including pattern formation, instabilities, turbulence-adjacent interdisciplinary problems, and cross-domain nonlinear modeling tools• Physics of fracture, failure, and damage, including multiscale mechanics and fracture-informed design and resilience• Information and communication theory in physics, including inference, coding/communication limits, statistical learning viewpoints, and physics-inspired approaches to information processing• Intersections of physics with industrial and technological R&D, including process physics, infrastructure and materials reliability, and physics-based strategies for innovation • Cross-cutting methods that transfer between domains, such as multiscale and multiphysics modeling, uncertainty quantification, inverse problems, data assimilation, and physics-informed computational approaches• Bridging experimental and computational workflows, including reproducible pipelines, benchmark datasets, and community standards that accelerate interdisciplinary progressThis Research Topic aims to serve as a practical reference for researchers and innovators, and a catalyst for new collaborations and future Research Topics.Important Note: This is an invitation-only Research Topic.
