Reviews in Plant-Soil Interactions

Frontiers in Agronomy is delighted to present the ‘Reviews in’ series of Research Topics. ‘Reviews in’ is a series being launched across Frontiers in Agronomy’s sections which aims to publish high-quality review articles on key topics within the field. The goal of this series is to highlight recent advances across agronomic disciplines, whilst emphasising important directions and new possibilities for future inquiry. We anticipate the research presented will promote discussion within the broader agronomy community and translate to best practice applications in research, industry, and policy settings. The Plant-Soil Interactions section covers the complex relationships between plants, soils, and microbial communities, spanning rhizosphere processes, nutrient cycling, root biology, and the application of digital and sensor-based technologies to monitor and manage soil-plant systems. As global agriculture confronts soil degradation, nutrient inefficiency, and the pressure to deliver more sustainable production, the demand for rigorous, synthesised knowledge has never been greater. Reviews in Plant-Soil Interactions brings together high-quality scholarly review articles that map the current state of the science, identify critical knowledge gaps, and chart directions for advancing sustainable agriculture and ecosystem services. The Reviews in Plant-Soil Interactions collection welcomes Review, Mini-Review, and Systematic Review articles on topics within the scope of the Plant-Soil Interactions section. Topics considered in scope include:• abiotic stress tolerance mediated by plant-soil interactions• emerging technologies for studying plant-soil interactions• mathematical modelling of plant-soil interactions• mineral nutrition and nutrient cycling• pesticide and xenobiotic behavior in the rhizosphere• plant growth promoting soil organisms• plant-soil water relations and water use efficiency• root architecture and root trait selection• root biophysics• root-mycorrhizal interactions• root-pathogen and root-symbiont interactions• shaping and function of rhizosphere microbial communities• trophic interactions• AI and machine learning applications for predicting and optimising plant-soil interactions• precision agriculture technologies for real-time monitoring of soil health and plant-soil dynamics• digital agriculture and decision support systems for sustainable soil management• sensor networks and IoT technologies for high-resolution rhizosphere monitoring• data integration and predictive analytics for precision nutrient management.New articles will be visible in the collection as they are accepted for publication.
