Reviews in Soil Pollution and Remediation
Frontiers in Soil Science is delighted to present the 'Reviews in' series of Research Topics. 'Reviews in' is a series being launched across Frontiers in Soil Science's sections which aims to publish high-quality review articles on key topics within the field. The goal of this series is to highlight recent advances across soil science disciplines, whilst emphasising important directions and new possibilities for future inquiry. We anticipate the research presented will promote discussion within the broader soil science community and translate to best practice applications in research, industry, and policy settings. The Soil Pollution & Remediation section covers the sources, pathways, and ecological and human health consequences of soil pollution, including heavy metals, organic contaminants, microplastics, and emerging pollutants, as well as the biological, chemical, and physical strategies available for soil remediation and restoration of soil health and fertility. Soil pollution is a global threat affecting food safety, ecosystem function, and human well-being, and the scale of contaminated land worldwide makes evidence-based remediation approaches urgently needed. Reviews in Soil Pollution & Remediation brings together high-quality scholarly review articles that evaluate contamination mechanisms and risks, critically assess remediation technologies, and identify research gaps and policy priorities. The Reviews in Soil Pollution & Remediation collection welcomes Review, Mini-Review, and Systematic Review articles on topics within the scope of the Soil Pollution & Remediation section, including but not limited to:• Heavy metal and metalloid contamination: sources, speciation, and mobility• Organic pollutant fate, transport, and degradation in soils• Microplastics and nanoplastics in soil systems• Phytoremediation and hyperaccumulator plant species• Bioremediation and microbial degradation of pollutants• Risk assessment frameworks for contaminated soils• Mining and industrial site restoration• Emerging contaminants: pharmaceuticals, PFAS, and pesticide residues• Remediation technology development and performance evaluation• Regulatory and policy frameworks for contaminated land management.New articles will be visible in the collection as they are accepted for publication.
