Reviews, Perspectives, and Commentaries in Virus and Host Immunity

The interplay between viruses and host immunity constitutes a foundational area of virological research, underpinning our understanding of disease pathogenesis, prevalence, and prevention. Despite significant progress in elucidating the mechanisms by which viruses infect and persist within hosts, many aspects of virus–host interactions remain incompletely understood. Ongoing debates centre around viral evasion strategies, innate and adaptive immune responses, the implications of viral diversity, and the role of the microbiome in modulating immunity. Recent studies have highlighted the complexity of host signalling pathways, immune memory, and the potential of harnessing immune responses for vaccine and therapeutic development. However, growing viral diversity, emerging pathogens, and evolving host immune mechanisms continue to challenge researchers and demand continual conceptual and methodological updates. This Research Topic aims to collect authoritative reviews, perspectives, and commentary articles that critically analyse current concepts, models, and controversies in virus and host immunity. The central objective is to provide a platform for the synthesis of new evidence, the identification of knowledge gaps, and the discussion of future directions in the field. We seek contributions that interrogate established paradigms, propose novel frameworks, and debate ongoing challenges – such as immune evasion, chronic infection mechanisms, host-pathogen co-evolution, and opportunities for clinical translation. By facilitating dialogue among experts, this topic strives to advance both theoretical understanding and practical solutions for pressing virological and immunological questions.Focusing on the broad but defined field of virus and host immunity, this Research Topic encompasses reviews, perspectives, and commentaries examining molecular, cellular, systemic, and ecological aspects of virus–host interactions. Original research articles are not covered by this call. To gather further insights into virus–host immunity, we welcome contributions addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:o Mechanisms of innate and adaptive immune recognition and response to viral infectiono Viral immune evasion and mechanisms of immune modulationo The impact of host genetics, epigenetics, and microbiome on immunity to viruseso Co-evolutionary dynamics between viruses and their hostso Advances in vaccine development and antiviral immune therapeuticso Immunopathogenesis of viral diseases and chronic infectiono Emerging viral pathogens and their interaction with host immunityo Conceptual and methodological advances in virus–host immunity researchArticle types considered for this Research Topic could also include Mini-Reviews, and Hypotheses and Theory; alongside Reviews, Perspectives, and Commentaries Topic editors: Mario Clerici, SARA DE BIASI Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/78286/reviews-perspectives-and-commentaries-in-virus-and-host-immunity
