Secure Imaging in Surveillance, Remote Sensing, and Smart Cities

This Research Topic explores the latest developments in secure imaging technologies for surveillance, remote sensing, and smart city applications. Rapid advances in imaging sensors, data transmission, and artificial intelligence have enabled real-time monitoring and data collection at unprecedented scales. However, these advances also raise critical challenges related to data security, privacy protection, and the reliability of information across complex urban and remote environments.Original research, reviews, and case studies focused on secure image acquisition, encryption, authentication, and privacy-preserving analytics are welcome. Submissions may address technical innovations such as secure IoT architectures, robust image watermarking, adversarial attack mitigation, and trustworthy AI in imaging systems. This Research Topic aims to highlight emerging ideas and foster discussion on secure and resilient imaging solutions for safer, smarter, and more connected communities. To gather further insights in this evolving field, articles are invited — but not limited to — the following themes:-- Secure transmission and storage of imaging data in surveillance and smart city contexts-- Privacy-preserving machine learning techniques for image analysis-- Advanced encryption and authentication methods for remote sensing imagery-- Robustness of imaging systems against cyber-attacks and adversarial manipulations-- Implementation of secure imaging workflows across distributed and IoT-enabled networks-- Ethical, legal, and societal implications of secure imaging in public spacesBy addressing both technical and ethical perspectives, this collection seeks to provide a comprehensive view of the challenges and innovative solutions driving secure imaging forward.
