Shaping the Future of Biophysics: Celebrating Women's Contributions
Biophysics stands at the intersection of life sciences, physical sciences, and engineering, driving discovery through interdisciplinary approaches that illuminate the mechanisms underlying life. Despite their significant and diverse contributions, women scientists remain underrepresented and often underrecognized in biophysics, particularly in senior and leadership roles. Closing this gap is crucial not only for accelerating scientific progress but also for fostering an equitable and inclusive research environment that benefits the global community. Recent studies underscore both the importance of diversity for innovative science and the need for increased visibility and support for women researchers at all career stages. This Research Topic seeks to celebrate and amplify the scientific achievements, perspectives, and leadership of women in biophysics. Our goal is to highlight groundbreaking work led by women scientists, showcase the breadth of contemporary biophysics across scales and disciplines, and provide a platform that encourages collaboration and mentorship within a supportive community. By bringing together research from women across academia and industry, and at all career stages, this collection aims to spark new conversations, inspire role models, and identify emerging opportunities for the field. The scope of this collection encompasses all areas of biophysics, welcoming both experimental and theoretical contributions. We invite Original Research, Reviews, Perspectives, and Methods articles that advance our understanding of biological systems, technologies, or methodologies. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:Molecular and cellular biophysicsBiomolecular structure, dynamics, and interactionsMembrane biophysics and mechanobiologyQuantitative modeling, data-driven, and computational biophysicsImaging, single-molecule, and spectroscopic methodsSoft matter and biomaterialsInterdisciplinary innovations at the interface of biophysics and other fieldsTo be considered for this collection, either the first or last author should identify as a woman researcher. Submissions will be welcomed on an ongoing basis and featured on a dedicated collection page, supporting visibility, networking, and engagement across the global biophysics community.
