Smart Nanophytomedicine in Precision Oncology: From Bio-Nano Interactions to AI-Driven and Translational Cancer Therapeutics

Natural compounds remain a rich and structurally diverse source of bioactive molecules with significant anticancer potential. However, their clinical translation has been persistently limited by unfavorable pharmacokinetics, low bioavailability, poor target specificity, and variable biological responses. Recent advances in nanotechnology are transforming this landscape—not merely by improving delivery, but by enabling precise control over bio–nano interactions, tumor microenvironment (TME) modulation, and patient-specific therapeutic responses. This Research Topic aims to reposition natural compound-based oncology within the broader framework of smart nanomedicine and precision therapeutics. Unlike conventional approaches centered on encapsulation and delivery, this collection emphasizes mechanism-driven nanophytomedicine, where engineered nanoplatforms actively interact with biological systems at molecular, cellular, and systemic levels. Particular focus is placed on protein–nanomaterial interactions, nano–bio interface dynamics, and their implications for therapeutic efficacy, toxicity, and resistance modulation.Emerging paradigms such as AI-assisted nanomedicine design, 3D-printed drug systems, biodegradable and polymer-based nanocarriers, and nano-enabled immunomodulation are redefining how natural compounds can be integrated into next-generation cancer therapies. Additionally, advances in pediatric nanomedicine, regenerative biology, and systems-level disease modeling are opening new avenues for personalized and safer oncological interventions.By bridging nanotechnology, molecular pharmacology, and precision oncology, this Research Topic seeks to provide a comprehensive platform for innovative, translational, and clinically relevant nanophytomedicine strategies. Emphasis will be placed on integrating mechanistic insights with advanced engineering approaches to accelerate the development of safe, effective, and patient-tailored cancer therapeutics. This Research Topic focuses on smart, mechanism-oriented nanophytomedicine, emphasizing the integration of nanotechnology, biological interactions, and precision oncology.
