Standardization and Reference Materials for Genome Editing Measurement
Genome-editing technologies, particularly CRISPR-based systems, have rapidly advanced from experimental tools to platforms with broad applications across basic research, biotechnology, and clinical translation. This includes not only nuclease-based editing but also emerging CRISPR modalities such as CRISPRoff, CRISPR-based activation, and broader epigenome engineering approaches. As the field matures, the need for robust, reproducible, and comparable measurement frameworks has become increasingly critical. Variability in editing efficiency, off-target assessment, and reporting standards continues to limit cross-study comparisons and slows progress toward regulatory acceptance and real-world implementation. This Research Topic aims to bring together efforts focused on the development and application of standardized methodologies, reference materials, and benchmarking strategies for genome-editing measurement. We welcome contributions addressing both experimental and computational approaches that improve the accuracy, reproducibility, and transparency of genome-editing outcomes across different systems and contexts.Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:1. Development and validation of reference materials and control systems for genome editing2. Standardized protocols for measuring editing efficiency, specificity, and off-target effects3. Advances in quantitative and high-throughput measurement technologies4. Bioinformatic tools and pipelines for consistent data analysis and reporting5. Cross-platform comparisons and inter-laboratory reproducibility studies6. Frameworks supporting regulatory alignment and quality assurance in genome editingWe strongly encourage the submission of original research articles that introduce new methodologies, datasets, validation studies, or benchmarking approaches. Studies that provide experimentally validated standards, novel reference materials, or comparative analyses across platforms will be particularly valuable. In addition, high-quality methods papers, technical reports, and perspectives that address current challenges and propose practical solutions are also welcome.By fostering collaboration between experimentalists, technologists, and regulatory scientists, this Research Topic seeks to advance the establishment of reliable standards and reference frameworks that will underpin the next phase of genome-editing innovation and application Topic editors: Dr. Tuyelee Das, ASHISH PRASAD Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/79658/standardization-and-reference-materials-for-genome-editing-measurement
