Structural Health Monitoring of Bridges and Buildings
Aging civil infrastructure, including bridges and buildings, faces increasing challenges from environmental factors, overloading, and natural hazards. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is critical for ensuring safety, extending service life, and enabling condition-based maintenance. A core component of SHM is damage identification, the ability to detect, localize, and quantify deterioration at an early stage. The size and complexity of large structures make health monitoring challenging. This Research Topic focuses on recent advances in SHM for bridges and buildings, including but not limited to sensing, signal processing, damage identification, and condition assessment. This Research Topic aims to advance structural health monitoring by promoting innovative methodologies across sensing, signal processing, damage identification, and condition assessment. We encourage contributions on a wide range of topics that support the safe operation of aging civil infrastructure, and invite submissions from diverse backgrounds, including civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and other related fields. This Research Topic focuses on recent advances in structural health monitoring of bridges and buildings. The scope includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:- Structural health monitoring- Damage identification- Signal processing- Vehicle–bridge interaction- Advanced sensing technologies- Non-destructive testing- Structural condition assessment Topic editors: Feng Xiao, Gang Chen Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/82264/structural-health-monitoring-of-bridges-and-buildings
