Sustainable Materials and Flexible Bioelectronics for Biosensing, Diagnosis and Treatment

Recent advances in healthcare increasingly rely on interdisciplinary innovations that combine sustainable materials, flexible bioelectronics, and biosensing technologies to enable improved diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of disease. Such approaches are particularly critical for developing portable, wearable, and implantable systems that can operate reliably in point-of-care, decentralized, and resource-limited settings. This Research Topic aims to showcase cutting-edge research on sustainable materials and flexible bioelectronic platforms for biosensing, diagnosis, and treatment. Emphasis is placed on environmentally responsible, bio-derived, and biodegradable materials, as well as flexible and stretchable electronic systems that enable conformal integration with the human body. These technologies support continuous health monitoring, early disease detection, and therapeutic intervention across a wide range of biomedical applications. The collection also highlights emerging self-powered and battery-free bioelectronic systems, which harvest energy from mechanical, thermal, biochemical, or physiological sources to enable autonomous operation. Advances in nanomaterials, additive manufacturing, and hybrid device architectures further facilitate multifunctional platforms that integrate sensing, data processing, and therapeutic functionality within a single system.By bringing together contributions from materials science, bioengineering, electronics, and medicine, this Research Topic seeks to bridge fundamental research and clinical translation. The goal is to promote scalable, robust, and sustainable bioelectronic technologies that advance personalized medicine, point-of-care diagnostics, and next-generation therapeutic systems.Potential areas of focus include, but are not limited to:• Sustainable, bio-derived, and biodegradable materials for biomedical applications• Flexible, stretchable, and wearable bioelectronic systems• Biosensors for disease diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment• Self-powered and battery-free biosensing platforms• Nanomaterials and hybrid materials for bioelectronics• Integrated diagnostic–therapeutic (theranostic) systems• Additive manufacturing and advanced fabrication of bioelectronic devices• AI- and IoT-enabled biosensing and healthcare technologies• Translational and clinical applications of flexible bioelectronics Topic editors: Kuntal Maity Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/77702/sustainable-materials-and-flexible-bioelectronics-for-biosensing-diagnosis-and-treatment
